Some of the Amazing Clients We Work With

Themeda Triandra (Kangaroo Grass)

One of Australia's toughest and most useful grasses

We’re a family run business who have been specialising in all things Themeda since 2002. Our strain is extremely drought and frost resistance and provides a high growth rate. We pride ourselves on continuing to harvest native Australian seeds and supplying people all across Australia.

Harvest

The florets are harvested in the hottest Summer months when its seeds have reached their final growth stage. This ensures the maximum number of seeds are fertile and ready to grow

Dry

Once harvested, our florets are laid out to dry which takes the moisture out of the grass and stops mould. It also helps to harden the seed head which increases the seed soil penetration

Plant

The florets are spread in the desired area to grow and create a diverse, grassy environment. Planting can take place from mid Summer to late Autumn.  Themeda has a dormancy period of around 12 months

Uses and why you should be growing Themeda

Themeda is one of the most widespread native grasses in Australia and has been around since before the first settlers arrived. It was originally used as a food source (it’s seeds were turned into flour) but has since taken on a number of different uses due to its adaptability, low maintenance and attractive flowering. Themeda Traindra is a hearty grass that can withstand drought and frost and grows in almost any soil type. Themeda can be found everywhere from open plains, to rocky escarpments to roadside and is known for its ability to reduce ground erosion and eradicate weeds.
